Searching for the Latest Trends – VIVANESS 2022 Recap

To provide our customers with the best possible expertise, our team is constantly on the lookout for the latest trends and innovations. Our colleague Dr. Stefanie Schönweiz from the Research & Development department visited the international natural cosmetics trade fair VIVANESS in Nuremberg on our behalf.

The trade fair brought together tradition and modernity, pioneers and newcomers from the international cosmetics sector, presenting themselves to a professional audience.

Dr. Stefanie Schönweiz has summarized the key highlights and most relevant trend topics:

Sustainable packaging concepts

Avoiding, reducing, reusing, and recycling are the key principles here: products should contain as little packaging as possible, and everything that is not strictly necessary (such as leaflets, secondary packaging, etc.) is eliminated.

Particularly noteworthy are reduced, water-free formulations in concentrate and powder form, which are mixed with water by the end consumer at home following a DIY principle. Ideally, these formulations are refilled into supplied refill bottles.

In cases where avoidance and refill concepts are not applicable, packaging should be designed to be as recyclable as possible to ensure clean material streams for reuse.

Solid personal care products

An ongoing trend aimed at reducing packaging is solid personal care products. These range from solid soap bars and deodorant creams to universally applicable blush sticks in paper tubes.

The goal is to put the product itself at the center. Packaging plays only a secondary, purely functional role.

Local heroes

Regionality has gained more importance than ever before. Not only ingredients and packaging materials, but also local production sites are increasingly in demand.

These offer not only shorter transport routes but also significantly smaller carbon footprints. In addition, traditional materials are gaining renewed attention. Exotic ingredients are increasingly being replaced by regional alternatives, such as organic rosehip seed oil from Bavaria, and formulations are being reduced to the essentials.
